Some associations will prefer a software package that is integrated with the accounting software used by their management company or CPA. Following are some of the benefits of using a stand-alone software package for non-financial association management functions:
  1. If your management functions are integrated with the accounting software operated by your management company or CPA, you will have difficulty changing to a new property management company or CPA. This is not an issue with CAMS as CAMS is a stand-alone package. Even if you use a stand-alone application like CAMS you can typically access your financial information via the Internet.
  2. If you use your management company or CPA's software to manage your non-financial functions, you are dependent on the network and the computers at your management company or CPA being operational. Here in South East Florida, we have had several hurricanes over the last few years after which we did not have electricity for up to 8 days. During an electrical outage, you would not be able to access your information if it was running on the computers of your management company or CPA. With CAMS and a small generator, you can operate your business as usual during an electrical outage.
